How to remove and reinstall Dial Up Networking on Windows 95/98/98SE/ME

You MUST have your Windows CD or have the CAB files stored on your computer BEFORE beginning this procedure!!! Please have your CD already in your CD-ROM drive or, if the program asks, you know where to point to the CAB files.

To Remove Dial Up Networking: Click on START à Settings à Control Panel

Then click on the Add/Remove Programs Icon.

Then click on the Windows Setup tab at the top.

Then click on the Communications component and click on the Details button.

Uncheck the Dial Up Networking component and then click OK

Then click the Apply button in the bottom right of the window.

Windows will ask if you want to reboot. Select ‘Yes’.

After reboot Dial Up Adapter and TCP/IPàDial Up Adapter will no longer be listed in Network Neighborhood (or My Network Places in Windows ME).

You can check this by either right clicking on the Network Neighborhood (or My Network Places in Windows ME) and then left clicking on properties. Or you can click on Start à Settings à Control Panel and then double click on the Network icon.

 

Note: Before reinstalling Dial Up Networking I would recommend that a defrag be performed on your hard drive. The reason being is that you do not want Dial Up Networking to be installed back into the exact same place as it was before as it may corrupt again on install. Defragging the hard drive will make sure that it is reinstalled on a nice clean place on the hard drive.
