Error 678/721: The computer you are dialing is not answering

Q: Error 678/721: The computer you are dialing is not answering.

A: This error can be generated for many reasons. The phone number specified in the connection settings is not correct. Check the phone number within your connection to make certain it has the correct number of digits, does not have any incorrect codes listed (such as call waiting disable codes when you do not have call waiting on your phone line). The modem you are using to connect is having difficulty negotiating a connection properly. Some modems have difficulty "'talking to" the server equipment because of line noise, poor phone line quality, or incompatible hardware. Most new machines come with what is called a Winmodem -- which have known issues when connecting if certain line conditions exist. This can be easily resolved with an initialization code within your modem settings. Please consult your modem manufacturer's web site for the initialization codes
